This thread is about the best show on television. :tearsofjoy:

I'm nearly a Doctor Who newbie. The first time I ever saw it is when they came out with the new series. My hubby is a huge fan. He watched the old Doctor Who when he was growing up. When the new series came out, he explain why we must watch it. The 9th Doctor was my first (gosh it's kind of like having a first boyfriend even...) and holds a special place in my heart. It was very, very hard for me to let go. In fact, I even found myself feeling resentment towards the 10th Doctor at first! I've grown to love him too though (but he's totally not my type!).

I've since gone back and started watching some of the older shows. I can appreciate why people love Tom Baker. It's obvious that he added so much to the ever-evolving character. I think it's impossible to actually be in a bad mood watching him.

So anyway, tell me about your Doctor Who experience. Who's your favorite Doctor? What's your favorite episode? Favorite companion? Favorite scarf? Okay, that was a joke, but hey, you might have a favorite scarf.

I'm a newbie Dr. Whobie toobie :)

I've only seen episodes from the current (recently ended) season. I've decided I quite like it though. The clincher was the "Blink" episode. I loved it!

How do I get my hands on earlier encarnations of Dr. Who? I'd like to waste some time getting to know the others (although I don't think my wife would like me catching up on 20+ years of television :)).

I thought the whole "everyone think 'Doctor'" thing was kinda lame, but I'll forgive them for that.

There are a lot of things about Doctor Who that are lame but we love all of it. Let's face it...this show is cheesy. And if you don't believe me, watch the old episodes...lol.

It's a kids show, actually..... so that's where the cheesyness comes from

Chris introduced me to it... and we watched the entire series together. SO AWESOME. I have no complaints :)

Cheesy? You know it's bad when you can play Spot-the-zipper in black and white.

When I was growing up, my family often watched Doctor Who or Monty Python, so it was just part of life for me... A pretty awesome part!

The 4th is my definition of the Doctor and I like the 10th a lot, too. I guess that's because I've worked it out in my mind that they are similar (though they look completely different).

Netflix is a good bet.

I myself like nearly anything with the 4th doctor (Tom Baker). I like the 5th doctor (Peter Davidson) quite well also.

Anything with Cybermen, Daleks and Silurians is fine.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart is one hunky dude. :D

We named one of our cats K-9. :D

Captain Jack wins by a mile. he's even cuter when he isn't in character though which is weird - he appeared on the Friday Night Project and was the hottest thing since man discovered fire.

It is NOT a kid's show. It's a FAMILY show. We used to have several of them when I was growing up but now I think it's the only one left. On British TV up until the end '80s it was pretty much a constant theme of early evening television at the weekends - shows that adults and children could watch together without either set feeling like they were simply doing it to keep the others happy. Other shows I fondly remember amongst such would include The Tripods (adaptations of the John Christopher novels) and, going back earlier, Blake's 7 (they're both science fiction, too, but that's what I like best. There were some others, though - The Owl Service, for instance, I would class as fantasy and then there was the wonderful Robin of Sherwood with it's somewhat mystical take on the legend).

To answer the OP, my favourite is still Tom Baker with David Tennant a close second. This latest series has been very good though - them getting both Derek Jacobi and Jon Simm to play the Master was a great coup. The last person to play him was Eric Roberts in that awful Americanised pilot and thank goodness that sorry episode has been forgotten (though Paul McGann was actually quite good in it).

Seain says he thinks a lot of people don't care for Christopher Eccleston because his version of the Doctor is a bit darker. To me, he just displayed a wider range of emotions. It helps also that I am not particularly attracted to David Tenant although I must say I love the 10th Doctor's clothes.

Speaking of Tom Baker though, Seain and I just watched The Pleasure Hive last night. It was awesome. That was the most layers of red velvet I have ever seen worn at one time and the hat was just perfect.

 Didn't mean to offend there. I probably meant Family and it came out as "kid" ..... *goes to a corner*

You didn't ofend me, it's just that I feel very strongly that we should have more shows that parents can watch with their kids. It's great to share something like that and it's not something I can do with genuine kids' shows. Of course, having been a huge fan of the show since the late '70s I guess I might be a little touchier about this than some.
