You'd think it would be... :uh:

EDIT: But I suppose you have to be patient with some people. Long held habits of mind take long to break. ...So the younger generations will be more receptive.

[-]I couldn't watch the video as I don't have sound,[/-] but from the comments and name of it I can assume what it is about to some extent. I have explained to family members that I think the only way to change opinions on issues of egalitarianism and equal rights it to stop presenting them in terms of altruism, explain why they benefit the average person who feels comfortable in their rights. When the government decides it has the right to intrude on your personal relationships and legislate morality by outlawing gay marriage, what is to stop them from outlawing your serial monogamy, or telling you that you aren't allowed to raise children without a traditional family (ie, ban single parents) in fact, why not disallow the infertile from marrying, or couples who get a little too kinky for our taste? When we protect the rights of others, we don't have to do it for their sake, why not do it to make sure our own rights never get infringed upon?

Even if I am an altruistic idealist :p

That pretty well sums it up.

And chalk this up for one more reason I am glad Obama got elected. I have high confidence that he will nominate Supreme Court and federal court justices that will put the law before religion, not religion before the law. Lord knows we have had enough of that for nearly a decade.

Why can't more people get it? It's simple!Bigotry is a form of blindness. People don't see what they don't want to see. So they create illusions, instead. In this case, they create illusions that cause them to see other people as less than themselves.

If you truly understand liberty then of course, this is simple but, sadly most Americans know nothing of authentic liberty.
