These are especially useful if you're just coming down with a virus like a cold or flu. As always, sooner you can nip those in the bud, the better, but even if the virus is in fully sway, these will help move it out of your system a little better.

Some of these baths are also useful for pain, be it arthritis or muscle stress from hard physical work.

Directions: For any detox bath, soak a minimum of 20 minutes, dirnk a good sized glass of water while you're in the tub, and gently brush your skin (with a washcloth for example) to keep the pores open, especially on the legs.

If you're trying to fight off a cold or the flu, do yourself an added favor -- go to bed after your bath. Extra rest is essential to overcome the virus.

Something that I thought I'd throw in there that helps me a lot.

Hyssop Oil Baths

You put about 5-10 drops of hyssop oil in the bathtub and it is so relaxing. It relaxes my body and loosens it up so I'm not so sore and achy anymore. Defintley something I would suggest to anyone. :jump:

If you decided to take a detox bath, and wanted a little more scent in your tub, is there an issue with adding bubble bath? I know that might defeat the purpose, but I'm not sure what would make it smell better.... I only have some mint oil.

I generally only take a bath if I'm sick, but when I'm sick a long hot soak helps in ways a long hot shower just can't. I make my own bath salts from equal parts of plain salt, baking soda, and epsom salts, and add whatever essential oils seem like a good idea to me at the time.

However, I've never tried ginger. Thanks for the suggestion!

I love baths!! :heartbeat: I don't really understand how this eliminates toxins tho. Are you saying they come out through your pores? How does adding ginger or salts to the bath water accomplish that?

How are you normally supposed to feel with the ginger/epsom/salt bath? I felt kind of woozy afterwards, then took a nap and now I feel much better.

No, it shouldn't hurt anything. I add lavendar oil sometimes.

Yes, it comes out your pores. Too bad we don't do sweat lodges any more. :(

Ginger has a lot of medicinal uses. In a soak or in food it's good for pain, especially muscle fatigue pain and arthritis. I take ginger drops in water (nasty tasting -- chug quickly!) as a kidney flush sometimes too.

And salts of any sort suck the moisture out of you, and toxins along with. That's why you should drink a big glass of water during or at least after the bath.

It's not unusual to feel that way after a detox bath. It puts a bit of strain on the system to pull the stuff out so fast, and that can make you sleepy.

I have a footbath machine that I use for detoxing, and I sometimes fall asleep in my chair halfway through.

If I'm really dumping stuff, I sit it in the tub and put the array in. That results in some serious bathtub ring

Are the ginger baths safe during pregnancy?

Are the ginger baths safe during pregnancy?

Yes they are. Just make sure of course you are drinking that water along with the detox bath. The salts will draw some fluids out of you, and you'll want to replenish them for sure.
