I've said it before and I'll say it again...

...I hate Mostar. I truly do. The reason is simple: every year, around this time, I turn on the news and see this:

And it doesn't stop there - no, of course not. Mostar isn't contented to do this to us once or twice a year, no... it has to be at least 10-20 degrees warmer than Sarajevo every day between October and April.

You have to imagine the special feelings that develop in our hearts when we turn on the news during a February snowstorm and see that it's sunny and 15 in Mostar. It's less than 90 miles away... granted, that's 100 miles more or less straight downhill, lol, but still... it's not normal.

My only hope is that global warming brings Sarajevo the climate Mostar currently enjoys... and also burns Mostar to a delightful, brown crisp.

Phew, okay... I've got that off my chest for another year. lol

I forgot, that's 10-20 degrees Celcius warmer.

The map is also in Celsius - in American measurements it's currently 32 degrees in Sarajevo and 50 degrees in Mostar.

Wow, it's that cold over there already? We're having a bit of a warm spell in Maine, it was 82F here today.

Yeah, it's that cold. Seasonal accidents are already starting to pile up around the city, lol:

Hot hot does it get in Mostar in the summer? (Celsius is fine for us chemists, you know. ;))

The average summer temperatures in Sarajevo and Mostar are comparable, at least officially. Sarajevo has an average summer temperature of 19C (66.2F), but this number averages nighttime temperatures as well. During the day it's routine to see temperatures around 30C (86F) and higher. In Mostar, the average summer temperature is 24C (75.2F) but, again, temperatures are much higher during the day and normally exceed 30C (86F) in the afternoon.

It's only in the winter that its annoying. The same mountains that hold the summer heat and give Sarajevo, on average, a warmer fall than Mostar also prevent storms from passing by the city so Sarajevo generally gets a lot of snowstorms and snowfall. In Mostar, it's the opposite because its mountains are on the other side of the city and prevent storms from reaching it. The only time they really get snow is when strong winds coming off the mountains blow snow from them and spread it out across the city - and you can imagine how quickly that melts. The longest recorded period Mostar has had snow on the ground was 72 hours in 1956.

Ah, the summer weather doesn't sound bad at all. Is it very humid?

It can be. There are a few days every year where you'd rather die than wait for nightfall.
