Alright, fess up. How many of you pluck your arm pit hairs? If you don't practice this ritual, are you still considered a devout Muslim? :D

Voila.......

Oh my God. I would never do this. I do, of course, remove all body hair but I use a special cream. Shaving and plucking just encourages hair growth, it defeats the whole purpose. Use creams long enough, as I have, and your body hair grows back slowly - eventually as fine, blond hairs.

Why don't you and your husband make a fun Saturday night game of it? You pluck his, he plucks yours? :p:D

*Shudder* lol There are some days I would love nothing more than inflict that on him.

Tonight, I think I'll ask Rick if he wants to play the, "International Religion" game....heheeee.

I've asked him before if I could pluck his eyebrows so he'll probably say no to this game too. :D

I've heard that there are creams which inhibit and eventually stop hair growth.

Does anyone know if these actually exist?

Slatka

Inhibit, sure - but that's nothing special about the creams. Any type of hair removal that doesn't involve leaving the root behind will inhibit hair growth. Prevent it from growing ever again... I don't think it's possible with a cream, you'd need electrical treatments.

Learn something new every day!

I've actually had bad results using stuff like Nair and Veet, they seem to only get rid of half the hair, and sometimes leave stubble behind. I'll have to see if I can find a better brand.

At Scout Camp we put Nair on a kids eye brows while he was sleeping. It was funny, but we got into big trouble.

That was interesting. Especially this part:
It is generally considered to be a counter position to the Christian doctrine of Original Sin.

Apparently Adam and Eve didn't have armpit hairs.

No. We'll just have to accept that they were a bit different than we are today.

What language did Adam and Even speak and what language did they use to communicate with God?

Pfft. Adam and Eve didn't need language, they use telepathy. At least the ones I believe in.

Actually in the literal biblical story they spoke a language that eventually the whole earth spoke. However, when the people tried to build a tower up to God, He struck it down and cast them about the earth and confused their tongues. He gave them many different languages and the language of Adam and Eve was lost.

Pretty silly story if you interpret it literally. Awesome story if you really think about the meanings of it.

I like radical mythologies - it's Jesus I find boring.

How do you interpret the story?

I interpret it as man united for means that were not productive and God frowned upon that, so He made us go through a period of division and strife to understand the meaning of unity and what sort of things unity should be used for.

I still don't get how you can find Jesus boring, maybe if you take out the divine and just look at His life, but even without the divine, His teachings were so radical that He stands almost alone throughout history.

Back to topic......I'm still looking for any Muslims that pluck their arm pit hair. Choodles and my great esteem for any that do.

There are only 3 Muslims here, so you don't have good odds.

... If I get choodles I'll go pluck my armpit hair. :D Waxing is like plucking, right?

Otherwise I just shave. Everything. Daily. It's one of the bonuses of PCOS.

I shave.

Fatwas I've read say that it's okay to shave off armpit since the whole objective is to get rid of the hair and not the way you do it.

That was interesting. Especially this part:

You misunderstand. Muslims believe babies are born sinless, so it's kind of a symbolic gesture since babies didn't have armpit or pubic hair. :P

A fatwa that makes sense? That's unpossible.

Do Muslim men take hair off, everywhere? If so, I would really like that although I can imagine a man with lots of body hair would be frustrated and sore often. :D

Here they're not all that strict. Some remove nothing, most remove hair under their arms, public hair, and any hair around the buttocks, and some remove all body hair - including hair on the chest, legs, forearms, and so on. Some women remove only the hair under their arms and on their legs, most remove everything from the neck down.

Wow. What sort of hair removal methods are there (perhaps this is for another thread)?

I imagine it does if you shave. If you wax or use creams, you really don't need to do it that often. Once every few days at first but as the years go by you need to do it less and less - I could easily go a month now without having to do it at all. Also, most Muslims belong to races that aren't generally very hairy to begin with - Arabs, Asians, and Slavs. There are men and women among all of us who could use a weedwhacker but the average amount of body hair is much lower for us than it is for Caucasians. If I did nothing regarding my body hair, for example, I would have hair under my arms, pubic hair, and a little hair on the front of the lower half of my legs - that's all. My husband couldn't grow a chest hair if he tried, lol...

I remember during the war, the two things most requested of the international aid organizations were condoms, firstly, and shaving cream, secondly. That still makes me laugh.

Muslim men shave their public regions? eeeek! And what about their rear?

Slatka

Yes - but all men should do that. lol These things become... basic hygiene... in the countries where they are religiously mandated.

I kind of like the idea of hairless men....at least for a change of pace. It sounds sexy.

Still, how does a man shave his ***? :D

There isn't very many here (that I know of) in the states that shave their nether regions.

Eep. I could understand the hygiene aspect of this, but isn't there a better way not involving blades? It may be easier now, but think at some point how awful this could have been. How did men do this 100 years ago?
