I was watching a documentary about Freddie Mercury, who, I understand never acknowledged his homosexuality because of his faith. He happened to be raised a follower of Zoroastrianism (http://www.allbeliefs.com/f61/), and they do not accept or have any room for gays. Are there others of you who have hidden who you are due to the "rules" of your faith? Freddie lived a gay life, but he would just never verbally acknowledge it, so, I'm not sure how much it truly hindered him.

That is interesting.

Was he still a member of the Zoroastrianism faith when he died?

I believe so, but was not actively "practicing" any faith at the time. But, he never came out publically, even though he was ill and dying, and never acknowledged his long time partner. He also, to be fair, had pressure from the Queen record label, but his overriding limit was his faith.

That is really interesting. I've never ever known of anyone who has claimed the Zoroastrian label, let alone any famous people.

I've never had to hide who I am from my faith.. but I have had to hide my faith from my family.

Alyssa, that's unfortunate that your home denomination was so intolerant, and taught you to be so of yourself. I agree that churches like that bind together through fear, intimidation and hate. How sad.
