I'm curious as to whether or not there's any protocol regarding these sorts of things.
When I go to Church with my husband, we sit near the back and I always get more handshakes and welcomes than scornful or simply curious looks. I just sit, I never stand or kneel when everyone else does and I never go to communion and I don't pray myself unless I close my eyes.

Nope - There's no protocol. I had a roommate come to church who was Wiccan and no one said anything. They don't quiz you on what religion you are when you show up where I go to church and you can't really tell who is and isn't Mormon.

Our practice is very clearly Christian Gnostic and we don't apologize for that. Our services are open to full participation regardless of creed. People can just attend quietly, or participate to the extent they are comfortable with. Our communion is open to all who wish to partake of it.
It is common for people to attend who either have another practice as primary, or who have a secondary practice of some kind. Some Wiccans, Pagans, and Buddhists regularly attend at our larger congregations. Those who are serious practitioners will find many who are quite interested in their practice. So, it isn't a matter of blending in.
